Phrases that help in challenging times

Encouragement & guidance are beautiful gifts to receive, especially while in the season of caregiving. When I walk around in Hobby Lobby, I feel like I am swimming in a pool of encouragement with plaques and wall art to uplift my spirits. There are positive phrases & scripture verses that support me and keep me going.

Two encouraging phrases that I shared with my mom 8 years ago when we started our caregiving season together were: “We are partners” and “One day at a time”. I continue to share these phrases with her.

My mom was placed on Hospice this

month. As you can imagine, it’s an

emotional time.

As someone who is highly sensitive & empathetic, I realized it was time for a new phrase to help me prioritize what’s most

important right now.

My husband, the engineer, offered this phrase: “Have the main thing, be the main thing”.

I know that the main thing right now is spending precious time with my mom.

This phrase helps guide me when the thoughts come up that say I need to clean the house or prepare dinner.

Take-out and a messy house are fine,

if it means more time with my mom.

The phrase helps me to say ‘no’ to what isn’t necessary, so I can focus on these special visits.
