Because even superheros need support

My favorite Saturday morning cartoon growing up was Super Friends. All the superheroes together -what a dream team! (Totally dating myself here… 😄)

I used to pretend I was Wonder Woman.
Not just as a kid… but later, as a caregiver.

I truly believed I could swoop in and take care of everyone. If someone needed help, I was there - faster than my Honda Accord could pretend to turn invisible so I wouldn’t get a speeding ticket. (I wish! 😂)

But the truth was… the pace I was keeping wasn’t human.

My body eventually let me know:
You’re not a superhero.
You’re a human who cares deeply - and humans need rest, support, and care too.

And I know many of you reading this can relate.

You’re the dependable one. The helper. The giver.

You don’t want to let anyone down.

You wear the invisible cape because you’ve always been the strong one.

But strength doesn’t mean doing everything alone.

Cape off, time to relax with a cup of tea.

Courage looks like asking for help.

If this resonates, here are 3 gentle approaches that can help a caring over-giver take one small step toward accepting help:

3 Approaches to Release the “Superhero Pace”

1️⃣ Try on a new belief: help is an act of love - not a burden
When someone offers support, consider that they’re expressing care. Letting them in can strengthen your connection and lighten your load.

2️⃣ Start with small asks
Pick one thing - maybe grocery pick-up, sitting with your loved one while you take a breather, or helping with paperwork. Allow it to be imperfect. You’re practicing a new muscle.

3️⃣ Share the “why” behind your ask
People often want to help but don’t know how. A simple statement like, “I’m trying to take better care of my own health” helps them understand the importance - and cheer you on.

Each tiny step is you honoring your humanity.
You deserve that. Truly.

What’s one small ask you can try this week?
