Generosity from a friend
This month, my husband and I were at a dear friend’s house for game night.
It was a chilly night here in Florida, and she offered me a cozy blue and green blanket to keep warm.
I commented on how beautiful it was and shared that those are my favorite colors .
Guess what she did?
She told me to keep it.
Without hesitation.
She simply said it doesn’t go with her colors anymore & gave it to me freely and with love.
She didn’t overgive out of compulsion.
She didn’t give to please me.
She gave happily, simply to bring a friend joy.
At first, I said no - I was only sharing how much I liked her blanket. But she insisted… and I graciously accepted.
What a beautiful example of giving from overflow, not depletion.
I’m so grateful to have wise and compassionate role models like her in my life.
Wrapping myself in gratitude for the generous friends in my life.
Here’s a gentle invitation to notice your own patterns of giving:
Do you give a little too much… and end up feeling resentful?
Do you give way too much …and feel exhausted?
Or do you give in a more balanced way that allows you to keep your peace… and even your joy?
There’s absolutely no judgment in where you are (because truly - I’ve been there too).
This isn’t about fixing anything. It’s about taking one tiny step: noticing.
That’s it. Just noticing where you are right now.
And if you’d like someone to walk alongside you as you gently explore your patterns of giving, this is one of the meaningful ways I support my clients.
I’d love to connect when you’re ready.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
